Rural Immersion Program
There’s an urgent demand for more health care professionals in communities across Nebraska. Led by Julie Calahan, UNK's Rural Immersion Program is providing a unique opportunity for health science students to interact with health care providers and experience rural health care firsthand. It also helps them develop relationships with and in the communities they visit, creating connection points for their future careers.
Supporting Behavioral Health Across Nebraska
Behavioral Health Education Center
Eighty-eight of Nebraska's 93 counties are considered to have a shortage of behavioral health professionals—an issue that has been exacerbated by the pandemic. Dr. Marley Doyle, a psychiatrist at UNMC, leads the Behavioral Health Education Center—which improves access to behavioral health in Nebraska by developing a skilled, passionate workforce.

Public Health
Public health saves money, improves our quality of life and helps families thrive. Dr. Marcia Adler, a professor of public health at UNO, helps keep Nebraska communities healthy by training public health students—who learn to promote healthy lifestyles, research injury prevention, and detect and prevent infectious diseases.
